Local Law 97 is part of NYC's Climate Mobilization Act. It sets carbon emissions limits on buildings larger than 25,000 sq ft. Fines for non-compliance begin in 2030 at $268 per ton of CO₂ over the cap, with caps tightening further beyond that. The best time to start reducing emissions is now.
